Luisa Piccarreta: Seduced by a demon?

Medjugorje enthusiasts tend to be keen as well on the Marian Movement of Fr. Stefano Gobbi (d. 2011) and the prolific writings of Luisa Piccarreta (d. 1947).

 

A Catholic woman recently gave me some material from alleged mystic Luisa Piccarreta’s 36-volume The Book of Heaven, asking for my opinion of it.

The first thing that I read was this (Dec/24/1902 – Vol. 4):

 

Continuing in my usual state, I found myself outside of myself, and I found Our Lord, who had a cross near Him, which was all braided with thorns. He took it and placed it upon my shoulders, commanding me to carry it into the midst of a multitude of people, to give proof of His Mercy and to placate Divine Justice. It was so heavy that I carried it bent over and almost dragging myself. While I was carrying it, Jesus disappeared, and as I reached a certain place, the one who was guiding me told me: “Leave the cross and remove your clothes, for Our Lord is coming back and He must find you ready for the crucifixion.”

I removed my clothes but I kept them in my hands because of the embarrassment my nature felt; and I said to myself: ‘I will drop them as soon as He comes.’ At that moment He came back, and finding me with my clothes in my hands, told me: “You have not even let yourself be found completely stripped so that I might crucify you immediately”.

 

I had to wonder who Luisa’s “Jesus” really was.

The real Jesus did not “leave the cross”, nor did he, in “the midst of a multitude of people”, remove his clothes. He was forcibly “stripped” (Matthew 27:27-28): “Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. They stripped him of his clothes …”.

 

Here are some further extremely weird excerpts that one will encounter in The Book of Heaven (Mar/10/1909 – Vol. 9):

 

He, instead of answering me, drew near my mouth and placed His tongue in my mouth, and I was no longer able to speak.  I could just suckle something -but I can’t tell what it was; and as He withdrew it, I could only say:  ‘Lord, come back soon – who knows when You are coming back.‘  And He answered: “This evening I will come back again.” And He disappeared.

 

(Feb/06/1919 – Vol. 12):

 

…. Jesus came, All in a hurry, and told me: “My daughter, I am very hungry.” And it seemed He would take many tiny little white balls from inside my mouth, and would eat them. Then, as if He wanted to satisfy His hunger completely, He entered inside my heart, and with both hands He took many crumbs, big and small, and ate them hurriedly. Then, as if having satisfied His hunger, He leaned on my bed and told me: “My daughter, as the soul keeps enclosing my Will and loves Me, in my Will she encloses Me; and, in loving Me, she forms around Me the accidents in order to imprison Me inside, and forms a host for Me. …”

 

Although Luisa Piccarreta died 70 years ago, her writings are popular today, especially in Spain.

Most worryingly from a Catholic point of view, Luisa’s messages go right against the teachings of the Church, and its Traditions, because they contain new revelations.

“Kingdom of the Divine Will”
Catholic?

 

The purpose of this page is to provide information on the writings of Luisa Picaretta, with the intention of determining if the Kingdom of the Divine Will movement poses a threat to Catholics. The following spells out specific portions of Luisa’s writings which appear to contradict Catholic teaching. A New Revelation?

 

  • Luisa states that what she has received is a new revelation, never before communicated to the Church, which is necessary for all the faithful to adhere to and understand if they hope to attain a new and higher level of beatitude which God desires for all his children.
  • Luisa claims to be the founder of a totally new dispensation, a new way of holiness, a new way of being united with God.
  • According to her writings, this new way of being united with God has only been lived by three people before it was revealed to Luisa Piccarreta: Adam and Eve (before the Fall) and Mary.

 

A New “Sacrament” of the Divine Will?

 

  • Luisa clearly and repeatedly teaches that when one receives this new “Sacrament” of the Divine Will the human will ceases to function as such and the Divine Will acts in the creature in such a way that the action is purely divine.

 

What Does the Catholic Church Teach?

 

  • “The Christian economy, therefore, since it is the new and definitive covenant, will never pass away; and no new public revelation is to be expected before the glorious manifestation of our Lord, Jesus Christ (cf. I Tim 6:14, 1 Tit. 2:13).” (Vatican Council II, Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation (Dei Verbum), para. 4.)
  • “Throughout the ages, there have been so-called “private” revelations, some of which have been recognized by the authority of the Church. They do not belong, however, to the deposit of faith. It is not their role to improve or complete Christ’s definitive Revelation, but to help live more fully by it in a certain period of history. Guided by the magisterium of the Church, the sensus fidelium knows how to discern and welcome in these revelations whatever constitutes an authentic call of Christ or his saints to the Church.”

  • The Council of constantinople III 680-681 (DS 556-59), Ecumenical VI (against the Monothelites), clearly defines that the man, Jesus Christ, has two natural wills in Him, a human will and a divine will.
  • On July 13th, 1938, “In the Kingdom of the Divine Will” and two other writings of Luisa Piccarreta were condemned in the General Reunion of the Supreme Sacred Congregation. On July 14th, Pope Pius XI approved the decision of the Most Eminent Cardinals that had been submitted to him, confirmed it, and ordered it published. ….

 

According to one writer, “even an uneducated two year old could see how false this is”. For Jesus is supposed to have told Luisa:

 

“IN THE NEW ERA, THE SACRAMENTS, THEMSELVES, WILL NOT GIVE THEIR FULL FRUITS BUT WE WILL NOT REALLY NEED THEM, FOR THE REAL LIFE OF THE HOLY TRINITY IN THE DIVINE WILL IN THE NEW ERA IS GREATER THAN THE MYSTICAL LIFE OF GRACE THE SACRAMENTS HAVE.”

 

In the Book of Tobit, the demon Asmodeus, lusting after Sarah, will cause the death of her seven successive husbands (3:8): “Sarah had been married seven times, but the evil demon, Asmodeus, killed each husband before the marriage could be consummated”.

In Luisa Piccarreta’s The Book of Heaven, it will be – not seven husbands – but the seven Sacraments, that the demon will try to knock off, because, according to Luisa’s “Jesus”: “We will not really need them”.

Yes voters vilify Christians to the bitter end

The latest display of “tolerance” comes from The Rose Hotel in Chippendale, which has banned a group of young Christians from holding their monthly meeting in the pub’s beer garden because patrons complained that gay marriage was being discussed.
Tomorrow night’s Theology on Tap meeting, titled Listening as a Form of Love, has been cancelled after organiser Natalie Ambrose received an email on Friday afternoon from The Rose Hotel licensee George Kanellos.
“I’m terribly sorry to inform you that we can no longer let you host your event with us in the beer garden,” the email said.
“We’ve experienced some backlash from customers, and within these complaints they have threatened not to return if these events continue… I was told by staff yesterday that worked the previous event that 4 different groups of people got up and left and, out of the two groups, we were told that they might not ever come back.
“It was about the debate of marriage equality that had frustrated these groups and our locals.”
Kanellos refused to comment when contacted on Friday, but confirmed he had cancelled the Theology on Tap booking on the first Monday of every month, which attracts 200 to 300 people.
The event which so antagonised Rose Hotel patrons was a talk last month by American nun Sister Mary Patrice Ahearn titled, ironically enough, Resilient Faith: How to Survive When Under Attack.
The talk, organised by the University of Notre Dame’s Catholic chaplaincy, was not about gay marriage, but how to cope with being attacked for your faith.
Sister Patrice quoted the Gospels: “If the world hates you know that it has hated me before it hated you.”
She mentioned gay marriage as one issue, along with euthanasia, for which Christians would be persecuted.
“Most of us are feeling… tension, conflict, disruption in relationships, because of these issues,” she said.
She urged her audience to find “common ground between the two sides… I’m sure most of us in this room know or love someone who’s gay. Persons with same-sex attraction desire love, friendship and intimacy as much as you or I do.”
In other words, she could not have been more loving or charitable.
But for the “tyrants of tolerance”, anything a nun says has to be hate speech, and discrimination against Christians is the highest sign of virtue.
It’s part of what former High Court justice Dyson Heydon describes as “the new de-Christianisation campaign… the tyrants of tolerance pay lip service, but only lip service, to freedom of ­religion as a fundamental human right,” he said in a speech last month.
“Modern elites do not desire tolerance. They demand uncondi­tional surrender”. There’s no way an LGBTIQ group would be treated so shabbily as Theology on Tap, not least because sexual orientation and every other permutation of human diversity — except religious belief — is protected under anti-­discrimination laws.

Freedom not to serve people with whom you disagree only cuts one way. It is perfectly lawful for a pub to hang a “No Christians” sign in its window, which effectively is what The Rose Hotel has done.
Vilifying Christians has been a hallmark of the same-sex marriage campaign.
Rainbow bullies have physically attacked No volunteers, spat on them, stolen their placards, vandalised their churches, racially vilified them, blockaded their meetings. They abused Catholic students at Sydney University as “homophobes”, “bigots”, “neo-Nazis” and “gay-bashers”. “Go wank yourself off at home with your f … ing Jesus picture”, they screamed, on video.
They graffitied “Crucify No voters” on church walls, and stormed a Coalition for Marriage launch, chanting “crucify Christians”, and brandished a banner reading: “Burn Churches not Queers”.
The frightening intolerance of the rainbow fascists has been on display for everyone to see during the plebiscite process.
But disappointingly few high-­profile people stood up to defend traditional marriage — not one member of Cabinet, few religious leaders, no business leaders or sports bodies, almost no one in the media — even those regarded as conservatives.
So cowed is the business community that it is refusing to be associated with the Catholic Church.
One bank, which previously had donated to an archdiocesean annual appeal, this year grudgingly agreed to donate a smaller amount but on the condition its name was kept secret.
Any wonder that “No” voters have kept their opinions to themselves, and that published polls are wildly out of kilter with the reality that No campaigners have found on the ground?
No voters “feel like dissidents in their own country”, as the ACL’s Lyle Shelton puts it.
For all the criticism, with voter turnout at 80 per cent the process has been a success, and most importantly has galvanised a new generation of social conservatives, as Tony Abbott said last week.
Shelton says they are part of a “dissident movement against the elites and the celebrities and the media”.
“Win or lose, they’re determined to keep fighting for freedom.”
If the Yes vote gets up, religious freedom will be the battleground.

Pope Francis sides with Benedict by saying Christ shed blood ‘for many’

The Pope agreed Christ shed His Blood for ‘many’ rather than ‘all’

Pope Francis has appeared to wade into one of the most contentious rows over liturgical translations, and agreed with Benedict XVI that Christ shed His blood “for many” rather than “for all”.
During a Mass for cardinals who have died in the past year, the Pope said: “The ‘many’ who will rise for eternal life are to be understood as the ‘many’ for whom the blood of Christ was shed.”
Crux says that the Vatican used the quotation around “many” when distributing the text.
Francis added that “for many” better expresses the idea that people have a choice to make in this life – whether to be for God or against Him.

“Awakening from death isn’t, in itself, a return to life,” Pope Francis added. “Some in fact will awake to eternal life, others for eternal shame.”

Since the Mass was translated into the vernacular, liturgists have debated how best to translate the words “pro multis” in the prayer of Consecration. The words literally translate as “for many”, but many liturgists translated it into their own languages as “for all”.

In 2006, the Holy See gave instruction that all new vernacular editions of the Roman Missal from that point on should translate the words as “for many”, pointing out that it is also the most literal translation of the original Greek “περὶ πολλῶν” in Matthew 26:28.

The change met with opposition from some countries, most notably in Germany, prompting Pope Benedict XVI to write a personal letter in 2012 explaining why the bishops should adopt the new translation.

A new German version of the Mass was published but never officially adopted.

When Pope Francis published Magnum Principium earlier this year, devolving greater powers over translations to local bishops’ conferences, Cardinal Reinhard Marx indicated the German bishops would abandon the newer version.

This may put him at odds with the Pope. In 2007, the Argentinian bishops’ conference approved a new translation while the then Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio was its president. That translation had “for many” rather than “for all”.

Pope Francis: Paradise is the embrace with God, infinite love

Francis told the roughly 25,000 people gathered in St. Peter’s square that Jesus uses the word ‘paradise’ only once in the Gospel, when he is nailed to the cross and talking to the Good Thief. The pope described the scene on mount Calvary, where Jesus had his “last appointment with a sinner, to open wide to him also the doors of his Kingdom.”
The Good Thief humbly and bravely asked Jesus, “remember me” (cf. Lk 23:42), touching Christ’s heart with his repentance. He “reminds us of our real condition before God,” Francis said, “that we are his children, that He feels compassion for us, that He is disarmed every time we manifest nostalgia for his love.”

This scene repeats itself countless times in prison cells or hospital rooms, the pope continued, “no person, no matter how badly he lived, is left with only desperation and denied grace.”

Francis said that all of us come before God empty handed, discovering near death that our sins outnumber the good deeds we have done, but we “must not lose hope,” he added, “but confide in the mercy of God” like the publican in the Temple, or the prodigal son.
“Where there’s Jesus, there’s mercy and happiness,” Francis said. “Without him there’s cold and darkness.” Even when everyone else has abandoned us, Jesus is next to us, eager to lead us to “the most beautiful place in existence,” he said.

When the soul of the sinner goes to Heaven, the good that he has done in his life will go with him so that nothing that the Lord has redeemed will go lost, the pope said. But he will also carry with him “the failings and mistakes of an entire life.
“This is our life’s destination: that everything is done, and is transformed into love,” Francis said. “If we believe this, death stops frightening us, and we can also hope to leave this world serenely, with a lot of faith.
“Those who encounter Jesus, do not fear anything anymore.”

When that meeting finally happens, we will no longer be confused and need for anything, the pope continued. “We won’t cry uselessly anymore, because everything is passed; even the prophecies, even knowledge,” he said.

“But not love, that will stay.”

Three ways to obtain an indulgence for the 100-year Fatima anniversary

.- For the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal, Pope Francis has decided to grant a plenary indulgence opportunity throughout the entire anniversary year, which began Nov. 27, 2016, and will end Nov. 26, 2017.
The Executive Secretary of the Rectory of the Fatima Shrine in Portugal, André Pereira, explained to CNA that the plenary indulgence can be obtained during the entire Jubilee Year. There are three ways of obtaining the indulgence, detailed in a statement on the shrine’s website.
To obtain the plenary indulgence, the faithful must also fulfill the ordinary conditions: go to Confession and Communion, be interiorly detached from sin, and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father.

1. Make a pilgrimage to the shrine

The first way is for “the faithful to make a pilgrimage to the Fatima Shrine in Portugal and participate in a celebration or prayer dedicated to the Virgin.”
In addition, the faithful must pray the Our Father, recite the Creed, and invoke the Mother of God.

2. Pray before any statue of Our Lady of Fatima

The second way applies to “the pious faithful who visit with devotion a statue of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly exposed for public veneration in any church, oratory or proper place during the days of the anniversary of the apparitions, the 13th of each month from May to October (2017), and there devoutly participate in some celebration or prayer in honor of the Virgin Mary.”
Regarding this second way, the rector of the Fatima Shrine told CNA that the visit to the statue of the Virgin, “does not necessarily have to be only at Fatima or exclusively in Portugal,” but can be done anywhere in the world.
Those seeking an indulgence must also pray an Our Father, recite the Creed and invoke Our Lady of Fatima.

3. The elderly and infirm

The third way to obtain a plenary indulgence applies to people who, because of age, illness or other serious cause, are unable to get around.
These individuals can pray in front of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima and must spiritually unite themselves to the jubilee celebrations on the days of the apparitions, the 13th of each month, between May and October 2017.
They also must “offer to merciful God with confidence, through Mary, their prayers and sufferings or the sacrifices they make in their own lives.”

Mary was a ‘courageous woman’ up to the end, Pope Francis says

 

 

Commemorating the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, Pope Francis reflected on the day’s Gospel reading from St. John which recounted Jesus’ final moments on the cross. Mary, the pope said, had heard Simeon’s prophecy that a sword would pierce her heart and knew that her son would one day give his life for humanity.

“At the very end, she is there, standing, looking at her son” on the cross. “Maybe she heard comments: ‘Look, there is the mother of one of the three delinquents.’ But she remains. Silent. She is the mother, she does not deny her son,” the pope said Sept. 15 in his homily during a morning Mass in the chapel of the Domus Sanctae Marthae.

Yet she followed Jesus the whole time, which is why “we say that Mary is the first disciple,” the pope said.

Francis told those gathered in the chapel with him that the scene of Mary at the foot of the cross is something to be contemplated in silence rather than explained.

From the cross, “‘woman,’ – her son says – ‘behold your children.’ He doesn’t say ‘mother,’ he says ‘woman,’” the pope said. “A strong, courageous woman; a woman who was there to say, ‘This is my son: I do not deny him.’”

The Catholic Benefits Association, based in Castle Rock, Colorado, and representing more than 1,000 Catholic health care providers, has been the largest single plaintiff challenging the Obamacare contraceptive mandate. The association first sued the government in March 2014. CBA members are facing $6 billion in accumulated penalties should the issue fail to be resolved.

“This is a problem that’s easily remedied,” Douglas C. Wilson, CBA’s chief executive officer, told Catholic News Service. “It was created by Obama’s regulatory administration and it can be undone by the Trump administration just as easily.”
In an August 18 letter, Wilson asked the Trump administration, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice to stop defending the mandate in court and agree to a permanent injunction protecting the plaintiffs in all cases. The letter also urged the White House to adopt, unchanged, a proposed HHS regulation, submitted in May, to exempt employers with conscientious objections from having to comply with such mandates.
The mandate requires employers to provide coverage for contraception and abortifacients, opposed by Catholic moral teaching, under penalty of fines.
Wilson said he has not yet received anything other than a pro forma White House acknowledgement of the letter.
Asked about it during an August 24 news conference, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders responded, “I’m not sure if (Trump is) aware of the complaints or any specific places where that’s being ignored.”
On May 4, Trump, in a Rose Garden ceremony, announced an executive order, “Promoting Free Speech and Religious Liberty.”
“Your long ordeal will soon be over,” he announced to religious groups that included the Little Sisters of the Poor, whose Supreme Court victory in 2016 was widely considered the beginning of the end of the contraception mandate. “We are ending the attacks on your religious freedom.”

The CBA, based in Castle Rock, Colorado, and representing more than 1,000 Catholic health care providers, has been the largest single plaintiff challenging the mandate. The association first sued HHS in March 2014. CBA members “are facing $6 billion in accumulated penalties should this fail to be resolved,” Wilson said.
In July, the CBA filed a motion with the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver asking for affirmation of its 2014 injunction blocking implementation of the mandate. But on July 31, Justice Department lawyers opposed the motion and asked that the appeal be kept alive.
“They cited only some unspecified efforts to reach a regulatory resolution outside of the judicial process, but we have no guarantee that such a resolution will be either timely or sufficient,” Wilson’s letter argued.

(HHS Secretary Tom Price) “believes that the Little Sisters, eighty Catholic bishops, and hundreds of other religious employers should win their lawsuits. The president likewise has promised the religious employers victory. But for whatever reason, the Justice Department keeps defending Obama’s contraception mandate in court,” Eric Kniffin, a CBA lawyer said.
Wilson added, “It seems that this issue never crosses the finish line”.

Pope Francis at Angelus: all have role in building Church

Gospel episodeAhead of the traditional prayer of Marian devotion, the Holy Father reflected on the day’s reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, in which the Lord asks the disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” and Peter responds, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”
Jesus said to Peter in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven;
and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Pope: Christ build Church on firm foundations

Pope Francis said the Lord continues to build His Church in our present day. “Even with us today,” he said, “Christ desires to build His Church, this house solid foundations, which nevertheless does not want for cracks, and which always needs to be reformed, repaired, as in the time of St. Francis of Assisi.”

No “stone” is useless

Pope Francis likened people who have received the Gospel, and those for whom the Gospel in intended, to the little stones that often cause us the most trouble when we feel them underfoot, or that appear ill-suited to use in the edification of grand structures, saying that no one is without some part to play, some role to fill as building material.
“No stone is useless,” he said.

“Rather,” the Pope went on to say, “in the hands of Jesus [the littlest stone] becomes precious, because he picks it up, looks at it with tenderness, works it with his Spirit and puts it in the right place, where He had ever a mind to put it, and where it can be most useful to the whole building.”

VATICAN CITY (CNS)—God did not choose perfect people to form his church, but rather sinners who have experienced his love and forgiveness, Pope Francis said.

The Gospel of Luke’s account of Jesus forgiving the sinful woman shows how his actions went against the general mentality of his time, a way of thinking that saw a “clear separation” between the pure and impure, the pope said Aug. 9 during his weekly general audience.

“There were some scribes, those who believed they were perfect,” the pope said. “And I think about so many Catholics who think they are perfect and scorn others. This is sad.”

Continuing his series of audience talks about Christian hope, the pope reflected on Jesus’ “scandalous gesture” of forgiving the sinful woman.

The woman, he said, was one of many poor women who were were visited secretly even by those who denounced them as sinful.

Although Jesus’ love toward the sick and the marginalized “baffles his contemporaries,” it reveals God’s heart as the place where suffering men and women can find love, compassion and healing, Pope Francis said.

“How many people continue today in a wayward life because they find no one willing to look at them in a different way, with the eyes—or better yet—with the heart of God, meaning with hope,” he said. But “Jesus sees the possibility of a resurrection even in those who have made so many wrong choices.”

Oftentimes, the pope continued, Christians become accustomed to having their sins forgiven and receiving God’s unconditional love while forgetting the heavy price Jesus paid by dying on the cross.

By forgiving sinners, Jesus doesn’t seek to free them from a guilty conscience, but rather offers “people who have made mistakes the hope of a new life, a life marked by love,” the pope said.

The church is a people formed “of sinners who have experienced the mercy and forgiveness of God,” Pope Francis said. Christians are “all poor sinners” who need God’s mercy, “which strengthens us and gives us hope.”

Pope reflects on Transfiguration, summer vacation at Angelus

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis focused his Angelus reflection on the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, which is celebrated each year on 6 August. “The event of the Transfiguration of the Lord,” he said, “offers us a message of hope: it invites us to encounter Jesus, to be at the service of our brothers.”

The disciples’ journey to Mount Tabor, he continued, helps us “to reflect on the importance of detaching ourselves from worldly things, in order to complete our journey to the heights and to contemplate Jesus.” This involves conforming ourselves to Christ’s attitude of “attentive listening and prayer,” which allows us to welcome the Word of God into our lives. Summer time, the Pope said, can be a providential moment to grow in our commitment to seek after and encounter the Lord. “In this period, students are free from their scholastic commitments, and many families take their vacations; it is important that in the period of rest and of detachment from daily occupations, the strength of the body and of the spirit can be restored, deepening the spiritual journey.”

These spiritual heights, though, are not an end in themselves. Following the experience of the Transfiguration, the disciples came down from the mountain with “eyes and hearts transfigured by the experience of the Lord.” Pope Francis said that we too can “come down from the mountain, recharged by the power of the divine Spirit, to decide on new steps of authentic conversion, and to constantly bear witness to charity as the law of daily life.” This transfiguration will allow us to be “signs of the life-giving love of God” for all, especially those who suffer.

In the Transfiguration, the Pope said, we hear the voice of the Father saying, “This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him!” Pope Francis encouraged us to look to Mary, “the Virgin of Listening,” and pray that she might help us “to enter into symphony with the Word of God, that Christ might become the light and the guide of our lives.” He concluded his reflection by entrusting everyone’s vacations to God, and by praying for all those who are unable to take vacations, that summer may be for them, too, a time of relaxation, “gladdened by the presence of friends and joyful moments.”
